Increase export bans for Chinese products

21-01-2010

The recent RAPEX-China follow-up reports submitted to the Health and Consumer DG of the European Commission by Chinese authorities show a significant increase in the number of export bans for Chinese products in the period June 2009 to August 2009.

During this period there where 113 notifications of dangerous products transmitted through the RAPEX-China application.

In 75 cases (66%) investigations resulted in preventive and restrictive measures and in which 49 cases (44%) an export ban. This is significantly more than the 8 previous report periods.

In 38 cases where no action could be taken this mainly was due to the fact that the responsible Chinese manufacturer could be found.
